Golf Apart from the Gary Player Design Signature course at Bushman Sands, there are many exceptional golf courses in the area, all of which are recognised as being in the Top 100 courses of South Africa. These include another Gary Player design at Fish River Sun, Port Alfred, Humewood (Port Elizabeth, one of the country’s genuine links courses) and the new Jack Nicklaus Signature course, St Francis Links. Boat Cruises The 200ha New Years Dam in the Bushman Sands Reserve provides the ideal platform to watch the mesmerising effect of an African sunset with the opportunity to view big game at the waters edge. A resident boat, Imvubu, can accommodate up to 50 people for private cruises. It is possible to see antelope, elephant and hippos whist enjoying a drink onboard. Beaches Another idyllic spot on the sunshine coast is Kenton-on-Sea. Sandwiched between the Kariega and Bushman’s rivers, Kenton offers plenty of activities to keep visitors entertained, from water skiing and canoeing, to surfing, fishing and golf. A short drive from Kenton lies Cannon Rocks, one of the area’s best kept secrets. Rolling green farmlands meet with indigenous forest, which gives way to the world’s second fastest moving sand dunes. Culture Eastwards on the N2 lies the historic university town on Grahamstown, home of the National Arts Festival, held in July each year. It is the second largest arts festival in the word after Edinburgh. There are a number of historical rock paintings and rock art sites in the Alicedale area, many of which are thousands of years old. |
